Where's a computer?

Well today was a good day. Went to three classes: first one I could have slept in, second one I dominated a test in, and the third one we just talked the whole time. Then I gave blood and found out I have O negative which is the universal donor so that was cool. Gave the double red instead of the usual pint. Hour and a half after that I played a flag football game in which we lost again. At least we are consistent? Tomorrow I get to see some friends from high school; they are coming to play soccer against LeTourneau so I get to watch them play and maybe I'll get to talk to them some. Enough of the for the parents, here is what everyone else wants to read about.

This actually happened a couple of weeks ago but was reminded of it just recently. As I was walking along with another guy on my floor we observed a guy making a move upon this girl. Me, recognizing his feeble attempt to woo her exclaimed, "Look at that guy getting his mac on." In response to this my friend says, "He's not carrying a computer." Being shocked and despaired I told him what "getting your mac on" meant.

What have I done? Where am I? Oh well, I guess I did pick this place to go to school and had some knowledge of the nerdiness. But this? It's going to be a long year.

"Hey, I Haven't Seen You in a While"

The truth is that only three weeks have passed since I have been at college and it has not been that long of a time since I last saw my friends. But nonetheless I was glad to hang out with my Mexican friend Arturo and Neil this weekend. It was also good to see Martha and Nate and talk to them for a little while. It's refreshing to see friends that you have done so much with. Especially at this trying time at 1:30 in the morning it really tests to see if going this weekend was worth it, but of course it was.

I went to David Crowder's church today. It mainly consists of college students, in fact, I only saw one person outside of their 20s. The worship was good but that is to be expected since it is Dave, yet I did not find the message as pleasurable. The pastor only used one scripture in his whole sermon and even then it did not tie in very well to what he was saying. He pretty much took the quote "All truth is God's" and applied that to situations in today's society. He did have valid points that helped me but the main thing he was trying to get across just was not happenin'. He took the quote and said that a person can go to a movie that has sex related stuff, crime, and items of that nature as long as they realize that the honesty and love and care that also takes place in the movie comes from God. He said that a person next to you will not see that you understand these truths of God but that is alright. Well...he is wrong. And guess what? That is God's truth right there. He failed to mention the temptations that come from watching such trash and causing a brother to stumble.
On another note, I hope to find a good solid church here in Longview that I can get plugged into and help out some.

I like nice talks but I like walks better.

So this guy talks at chapel yesterday and starts off with "What would you do if a guy comes into the chapel and starts shooting everyone?" He asks a few people what they would do and then goes on to talk about how our faith in Christ should prompt us into action and take the guy out regardless of what happens to ourselves. He did not really explain this part but I assume his reasoning is that there is an apparent evil right in front of us and it is our job as Christians to put and end to it. He then makes his way into the one thing you cannot do in heaven. Witness to lost people.

The speaker, Mark Cahill, also had a night chapel later after he had spoken to us that morning. This time he was a little more informative and instructional about witnessing. He talked about how when we witness three things happen. Either people accept the truth, the seed is planted, or they just flat out reject it. He goes on to talk of how each situation is a winning situation. So the only losing situation is the one where we don't witness. He really got me to thinking and as it turns out it got a lot of other people on my floor to thinking also. We have devotions Wednesday nights and this was no different. We talked about James and about how he says our faith should be accompanied by works. So we talked about it for awhile and we decided we needed works with our faith and that was that. But wait all we did was talk. I had seen this before so I quickly interjected and said it was a nice talk but why don't we do something. Aha, brilliant, yes I know. So everyone agreed and we set a date to go out into the community and do some service projects or just hang out with people and build relationships with them. Of course we still have not done anything yet but soon that will change since we have planned for it and hopefully in a week or two I will tell you about what we did.

I like nice talks but I like walks better.

Achille's Heel

I sat at my computer pondering about what to enlighten you fine folks with and I kept failing to think of anything worthy your interest. About that time I hear commotion out in the hallway so I subsequently walk out into the hall to see what the noise is about. That's when I see tennis balls littered around the floor with sounds of balls hitting walls and people. As I round the corner I observe guys throwing tennis balls down the hall at other guys at the other side who are consequently throwing them back. What we have here is a tennis ball war and what true man does not love a fight? In that split second, me being the brave warrior that I am, start stocking my pockets full of tennis balls. Once they could hold no more I fill my hands with balls and start my charge. The fearless warrior instinct rose inside as I ran down the hall eating up the pelts of balls and continuing on. I reach the other side and then presume to unleash the beast. I start nailing everyone with tennis balls left and right, mainly focusing on their primary warrior. He gets hit several times and hides in a room until I am out of ammo in which he comes out and throws a ball that hits me in me in a sensitive area.

Reminds me of the age old story of Achille and his heel. He tore up the Trojans just as I tore up the guys on my floor, yet even great warriors such as ourselves were able to be taken down by a single shot. No matter how great a person comes they are able to be taken down in one swift motion that leaves them useless and vulnerable. I hope you enjoyed the first of hopefully many entries and leave learned and such.
